The College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies at Sacramento State houses departments committed to a broad range of subjects employing social science and interdisciplinary perspectives and methodologies. Our primary mission is to enhance our students' abilities to analyze and make informed decisions regarding issues, problems, and policies in the Capital Region, and at the state, national, and global levels. We accomplish this through excellence in teaching and scholarly activities, and promotion of faculty and staff professional development. We strive to prepare our undergraduate and graduate students for productive careers in the highly diverse New California in such occupational sectors as public service, law, and business. We also prepare students for a variety of teaching careers. To these ends, we approach our studies through a combination of classroom and experiential learning. We emphasize critical thinking and writing skills, applications of information technology, and issues of ethics and social justice.
